Could not have asked for a better experience for my parents and myself.
From the very offset, the team was prompt in securing booking through advance payment and accommodating each and every request from us (even to put up mosquito nets) and even our driver.
Hospitality was perfect and at the same time had a warmth which makes you feel like you are at home.
Every meal was exquisite in taste, variety and quality.
Overall Nihar is the ideal blend of heritage and modern, at the banks of the Ganges, offering a peaceful riverside escape away from the city.
But what touched our heart most were the people: the team AND their dogs!! The kindest souls ready to serve you as and when you need!

Nihar on the Ganges is a blissful experience that brings you close to nature in a way that you almost blend with it. Overlooking the Ganges, one can spend the evenings admiring the breathtaking sunset. The rest of the day goes by in leisuring inside the bungalow either by relaxing in the rooms or enjoying the lil activities like book reading or chess that they have arranged inside each room. The food is excellent, thanks to cook Anup and it is served very nicely by Ganesh. The stay gets even more easy and smooth thanks to the great, at-your-doorstep service provided by housekeepers Bablu and Ranjit Nayak who make themselves always available for you, throughout the day. Overall, this is perfect for a weekend getaway from the woes of life and to be one with yourself.

Spent 2 nights at this immaculately maintained heritage mansion which is truly steeped in history, specially pertaining to the period of Bengal Renaissance....the Partition and beyond.
The mansion is right on the Ganges with a spectacular view of the river and is an oasis of peace and tranquility.
The team members at the Nihar on the Ganges go out of the way to make the guests comfortable.
Thanks to Mr. Ranjit Nair for taking such good care of the guests and to Chef Anup Das for preparing high quality Bengali, Indian and Continental dishes as per the requirements of the guests.
Looking forward to visit the property once again, definitely for the solitude & also for the collection of books, some of which I haven't come across since my childhood!!

Had a great experience during our stay of 2 nights at the property. Well maintained and beautiful property located right at the bank of the river. The sunset view is especially lovely. Plenty of outdoor and indoor activities to spend time and relax. The decor was very tasteful giving an old world charm. Hospitality was great- staff were very courteous and made sure all our needs were taken care of. Food was very tasty- we ordered mostly from their set menu. Shoutout to chef Anup and Nair ji. Couple of improvement areas could be expanding the menu a bit further (or coming up with suggestions) and keeping some of the internal staff commotions separate from the guest areas. But the overall stay was great and would totally recommend this place.

We stayed at this location for a couple days over a weekend. This place has serene views of the Ganges with excellent accommodations and great food. The place is well maintained decorated with nostalgic items with old world feel spread across the property. We came with a need to relax and get a taste of the Bengali way of life from years gone. We relived the experience at this property with the excellent care provided by the ever helpful staff. We would like to thank Anup for the excellent Bengali delicacies he cooked based on our request.The other staff Kush and Babul were extremely warm and caring and catered to all our needs during our stay. We would strongly recommend for folks to come travel and stay at Nihar to get a taste of Bengali way of living and it’s culture.

My fiancé and I spent the most wonderful afternoon and evening at Nihar and the Ganges today for a dayout.
From the moment we arrived, Mr. Anand and Mr. Ranjit made us feel so welcome with their warm hospitality and gracious hosting. The authentic Bengali thali for lunch was absolutely yummylicious, and the evening snacks were the perfect touch.
The beauty of the nature here is so peaceful and moisturizing to the soul — truly extraordinary.
A special shoutout to Charlie and Chaplin, the two pet dogs, who made our experience even brighter and more memorable!

Nihar on the Ganges is truly a shundor place to spend a peaceful time.
Located just beside the holy Ganga, the view is absolutely mesmerizing. The sunset over the river is something else—mon chhuye jaay. Sitting there, watching the flowing water and the changing colours of the sky, brings a deep sense of calm.
The food is wonderful—tasty, comforting, and prepared with care. Every meal feels satisfying without being heavy, ekdom gharer moto.
And the staff members deserve a special mention—very welcoming, polite, and always smiling. Their warmth makes the whole experience even more special.
If you want a place where nature, food, and hospitality come together beautifully, Nihar on the Ganges is highly recommended.

Nihar on the Ganges” is a wonderful place we visited today. It has the essence of a heritage building situated right in front of the Ganges River, surrounded by a lush green and refreshing atmosphere with a sweet breeze flowing from the river.
From the welcome drinks to the final high tea, everything was delightful. We were especially surprised when lunch was served—the food quality and table service were excellent.
All the members of the resort, from the manager to the serving staff, were extremely warm and courteous. I remember a few names in particular—Anand, Sultan, and Ranjit—who made our experience even more memorable.
In one word, the food was delicious.

Serene stay near Kolkata. Away from hustle bustle of city, you can reach Nihar on ganges with in 90mins from Kolkata. Right at bank of river Ganges itself is premium experience.. add to that a beautiful heritage property with 3 huge rooms which are beautifully decorated with antique furniture just add to the experience.
Beautiful wrapped around balcony where you can actually spend the entire day either reading book or chi chatting.. the garden / lawn area is beautifully maintained and added bonuses are the seating places near the river to enjoy sunset.
I loved their food during my 3 day visit and since we were only one staying for major part it was even better service
All the staff members treat you like family, always asking if everything is fine, water bottles given in abundance and not stick to 2 per day.Will visit again for sure

Yesterday evening, I visited Nihar on the Ganges, a serene riverside café located at Niharika Ghat Road, Khardah, Kolkata. The ambiance was tranquil, with the gentle breeze from the Ganges enhancing the dining experience.
I ordered the Golden Fried Prawns, and they were exceptional. The prawns were crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, and seasoned perfectly. They were served hot, accompanied by a tangy mint chutney and a wedge of lemon, which complemented the dish beautifully.
The staff were courteous and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. While the prices are slightly on the higher side, the quality of food and the picturesque setting justify it.

I had the pleasure of trying the Chicken Drumsticks at Nihar on the Ganges, and they did not disappoint. The drumsticks were perfectly marinated — juicy on the inside with a deliciously crisp outer layer. The seasoning struck a great balance between spice and flavor, without overpowering the natural taste of the chicken.

This beautiful bungalow once belonged to Shri Radhakanta Deb of the famous Sobhabazar lineage.
Now redone and reused this place greets and looks after it's guests as its very own.
Biswajit Das is a helpful and supportive manager and Mr Ranjit Nayar the supervisor hosts his guests with warmth and care that is truly commendable.
Chefs Rozario , Anup ad Bablu whip up delicious meals.

Devendranath Tagore and Abanindranath Tagore's garden homes were located right across the river

Location wise this place is amazing .Nihar is situated on the bank of river Ganga.You will be lost in the lush green and the cool fresh breeze will amaze you in every way .it is 1 hour drive from north Kolkata .You can count your time through Google map .The entrance is quite narrow .Be careful before taking a big car like Innova or Scorpio .
The staffs are extremely well behaved .The cook is amazing .You will get a chance to taste homemade food with a gentle touch of love .
The river view is fantabulous .the manager is very much caring and helping .You May spend your whole day or you can spend a night in an antique interiorised room .
In a nutshell ,Nihar on the Ganges is one of the beautiful spots in Kolkata .

A beautiful and peaceful getaway which will give you an experience of a beautiful, serene and scenic rhythm of life.
My family and I were transported back to old Calcutta when life was wholesome and free from the hustle bustle and pollution.
The evenings are ethereal, the verandah/patio offers a beautiful clear view of the Ganga and there are different types of flowering and fruit trees on the property.
Clean rooms exuding an old world charm , well equipped bathrooms, food cooked with love and very cordial staff.
A few more vegetarian items to the menu would be a nice addition to have.
Nihar on the Ganges is an ideal getaway for all age groups, family and friends or colleagues and proably a perfect option for a short getaway.
A large terrace also makes it possible to host a small event or gathering.

A lovely property on the banks of the Hooghly/ Ganges. It was a baganbari( Garden house ) of the family of the Debs of Sovabazar Rajbari. The current owners have made this into a serene staying option quite near Kolkata( around one hour 15 minutes from the Salt lake stadium) .
There are three units Sukh Ganga( double, can accommodate three for a family) ), Sukh Sari( five pax) Sukh tara( four pax). Food is normally cooked on a set menu and one has to order in advance. Chef Anup rustles up some tasty dishes. ( katla kalia and mutton curry were delicious). Staff are sweet and very helpful( Nair da, Suleman, Bablu) and Biswajeet aka Pintu is the Manager. All are perfect hosts. A great place to relax for a day Or two.

We visited Nihar during the Holi week in Feb 2026. The manager, Biswajit Babu and staff greeted us with Marigold garlands and colourful tika , which set the vibrant mood for our one night stay . We were bound by the magnetic charm of the place and extended our stay till the next evening. The hospitality of the staff was overwhelming. I remember each of them by name . The Chef , Anup and his team spontaneously create magic on the plates day and night. I wish them the best in life.
Nihar is a shelter , a majestic one . The mighty Ganges speaks all here . The greenery , the neatness all around , brings in great freshness and positive energy that one can take back to the normal hustle bustle of life . The wifi and all modern amenities in this natural setting is such luxury which anyone would cherish

What an absolutely marvelous place. My family and I stayed at this beautiful villa for one night, recently. The location is fantastic, away from the hectic city life, sitting right atop the bank of the Ganges. The moment you step in to this place, you would be able to feel the serenity, quite literally. Our stay was comfortable and thankfully, we were the only family there. What also blew us away was the hospitality of the helpful staff members. Shoutout to Nair Da, Babloo Da, Anand da, Ganesh da, Anup da, Chotu, Rojari, Biswajit da and Kush for going the extra mile and taking care of us. And not to forget, the food. Right from the welcome drink to the lunch, snacks, dinner and breakfast - all the meals were nothing less than a work of art. Special mention for the bhetki fish fry, shada aloo dum, fish curry and chicken curry plus the variety of sweets. We will definitely visit again!

A very good experience thanks to the location and hospitality. Such a beautiful place for personal vacation, right next to the Ganges is a rare find. The sunset by the Ganges was a special experience. The staffs especially Mr Naik and Babloo, service guys made sure to take care of the hospitality and our cook Anup made sure that the food was personalized and home based. A little downside was the mosquito attack in the evening - the owners need to take care of that with pest control. Also, the rooms can be upgraded considering the price they are charging. Overall a good experience and definitely a well worth weekend trip especially if you have a group of family and friends.

Collecting
All the debris of humanity.
In passing it beckons to the house;

Digging into its crevices.
Nostalgia swings,
holding the roots of the old banyan tree
On Niharika ghat.
Enveloped in a cocoon of silence,
The house stands;
Its saga of the time long past,
Hidden behind the veil
Of renovated, whitewashed walls
And modern infrastructure.
The breeze,
Races boisterously ahead,
Bending the boughs of the banyan
Till its leaves can almost whisper
Into the ears of the river.
A butterfly flits
Amidst leafy boughs.
A mynah chatters occasionally.
The river water laps against the ghat's steps.
I sit in silence,
Trying hard to eavesdrop,
On what the banyan tree
Is telling the river.

Went for a Daycation to Nihar-on-the-Ganges, Panihati on 19.08.2026.
The location, place, ambience, property & hospitality was awesome. The service givers were friendly and loved their work. We were made to feel special, relaxed and pampered throughout. A special thanks to Mr Nair who is a gem there.
Now for the most important part - the food. We had pre-ordered the Continental cuisine and it was succulent, delicious and perfect cook by the talented Chef Anup. Every item and those large servings were fresh, flavourful and yummy.
The day spent would forever by a memorable outing for us. Thank you everyone.

Everything is very much good particularly the pollte behaviour of all staff members and their attachment with us just like as they are our own people. Shri Ranjit Nair and another person with him was exceptionally good. Room decor and attached toilet were also vary good.The name Nihar on the Ganges is ideally so. The great river Ganges is flowing just like touching the boundary wall of the building.
The quality of food and portion they served were satisfying. Only disturbing element was the approach road nearly 500 meters which is very narrow. It is very much safe to stay there. Wifi network is also functioning well.⁷

Beautiful property in Panihati on the banks of the Ganges. It had been on my wishlist for quite some time. It is well-connected by road. We took an uber and reached quite easily. The property and the food served are excellent but the service is the best. The staff are warm and hospitable to say the least and you can leave all your worries behind and just enjoy the experience. Even though it was lovely to enjoy the rain in the monsoon, but I would recommend going during non-rain months, then you can take strolls around the property and in the neighbourhood. Overall wonderful experience, keep up the service team Nihar!
